Knitting 101: Dishcloth Pattern

For those of you who have been through the whole tutorial: CONGRATULATIONS! You made it! Below you will find the full pattern for the dishcloth you have been working on so you can make it over and over again.

For EVERYONE: The cloth pictured is using Sugar and Cream Summerfield Ombre. I have only been able to find this in the big 14 oz cone. While it is a beautiful color, you will not need NEARLY that whole cone of yarn.

Materials: Any 100% cotton yarn about 114 yards (kitchen style cotton is recommended), US 10 (6 mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: 18 Stitches x 24 rows =4″ (10cm)

Abbreviations: k =knit, p = purl, RS = right side WS = wrong side


Cast on 54

Row 1 (RS): k2, p2 across

Row 2 (WS): p2, k2 across

Rows 3-8: Repeat rows 1 and 2

Row 9 (RS): k2, p2, k2, p2, k38, p2, k2, p2, k2

Row 10 (WS):p2, k2, p2, k2, p38, k2, p2, k2, p2

Repeat rows 9 and 10 until work measures 9.5 inches from the cast on edge. Make sure to end on a WS row.

Next Row (RS): Repeat rows 1 and 2 until work measures 11 inches total (about 8 more rows) Bind off, tuck tails.
